This lecture will highlight the role of Italians in the establishment of the Egyptian Museum, Cairo, beginning with the Italian firm Garozzo – Zaffrani, responsible for building the Museum, all the way to the Italian specialists involved in the feasibility project of the Grand Egyptian Museum of Giza. The Italian presence in other aspects of Egyptian Museology is also mentioned: for instance, the Italian painter Luigi Vassalli who was appointed curator of the Egyptian Museum of Bulaq in 1865.
