A Prototype Exhibition (Innovation Pavilion) is held annually to offer a platform for young innovators to showcase their inventions to investors, business people, policy makers other scientists and researchers from various disciplines, and, entrepreneurs. This exhibition provides an opportunity to young innovators to network and further develop business ideas, projects and partnerships. It also offers an excellent opportunity for investors, business people and interested stakeholders to have access to the young innovators and their innovative prototypes.
This is basically a very useful tool to empower the innovators to take execute their ideas into prototypes and develop their prototypes into more commercial-able ones.
The competition has two phases. Initially, 30 projects will be selected to participate in the competition. Then, 10 prototypes will be showcased in a special ceremony.
The YIA-Prototype Design competition builds on the success of the Young Innovators' Awards (YIA) – to stimulate a culture of research and development among technical students of Engineering, Science and Agriculture. In support of their final-year graduation projects, the project currently provides awards to students based on their proposals for innovative ideas linking education to industry. YIA-PD, offered once per academic year, takes this project to the next level, providing grant awards to graduates and student groups (each comprising 4 or 5 students on average) based on their actual prototypes. The screened and selected prototypes will be expected to be the seed for new business start-ups and other business projects that students could undertake after graduation. The competition is announced at all 18 Egyptian Public Universities Faculties of Engineering, Agriculture, and Science. YIA-PD awardees will receive an award of EGP 25,000 each.
